Michael C. (Mike)'s Story

Military COLONEL MICHAEL C. SEVCIK Colonel Sevcik enlisted in the Army in 1975 and was commissioned as a Transportation Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1977. Following graduation from Transportation Officer Basic Course, he served as a motor officer and light truck platoon leader in Company B, 1st Supply and Transportation Battalion, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. He next served as the Support Platoon Leader in the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, also at Fort Riley, Kansas. In 1981, Colonel Sevcik attended the United States Army rotary-wing qualification course at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and the Maintenance Test Pilot course at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and was assigned to the 3d Armored Division at Hanau, Germany, where he served three years as an Attack Platoon Leader, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, and Production Control Officer in the 503d Combat Aviation Battalion. Following completion of the Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Colonel Sevcik served as Company Commander, Company C, 1st Battalion, 222d Aviation Regiment and as the S4 Logistics Officer for the 8th Transportation Brigade at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Colonel Sevcik returned to Fort Riley in 1989 to command Company F, 1st Aviation Regiment (AVIM). Subsequently assigned as the Executive Officer of the 101st Support Battalion, Colonel Sevcik deployed with the 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized) to Desert Shield/Desert Storm. After completing the Materiel Acquisition Management Course, Colonel Sevcik was assigned to the Operational Test and Evaluation Command in Alexandria, Virginia as an evaluator for the MH-60K and MH-47E, an all aviation logistics programs. llege at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Colonel Sevcik was posted to Fort Hood, Texas in 1996 where he assumed command of the 404th Aviation Support Battalion and subsequently served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G4 (Logistics) in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized). Colonel Sevcik attended the Advanced Operational Arts Studies Fellowship at Fort Leavenworth in 1999 and served as a seminar leader at the School of Advanced Military Studies in 2000. Colonel Sevcik assumed command of CSCT #3 supporting the 3d ROK Army in Korea on 11 July 2001. COL Sevcik was assigned to joint duty with the USAF at Offutt, AFB in 2002 where he was the commander, Team 1 of the National Airborne Operations Center working with US STRATCOM and the Director for Global Operations, JCS. In the summer of 2003 COL Sevcik assumed command of the 16th Corps Support Group in Iraq during OIF 1 as part of V Corps/CJTF-7 efforts in Iraq. His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Kuwait Liberation Medals (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Aviator Qualification Wings and the Airborne Badge. In April 2001, Colonel Sevcik was inducted into the Officer Candidate Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia. COL Sevcik changed command of the 16th Corps Support Group on 28 JUN 2005 and was assigned as the Director, Logistics and Resource Operations, CGSC, Fort Leavenworth, KS in JUL 2005. Married to the former Tamara J. Adams of Granite City, Illinois, the Sevcik’s have two children: Matthew (22), an Infantry Officer, 2LT, and Molly Jo (14).
